Why should Martin Lewis return his OBE?

Good Morning Britain star Martin Lewis has stunned his Twitter followers after revealing he was forced to surrender his OBE after ‘withdrawing it’.

The financial journalist and TV personality has become a regular on-screen face, delivering his top money-saving tips on the show.

Martin, who is also The founder of MoneySavingExpert.comwas awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) on the 2014 anniversary for service to consumer rights and charitable services.

But the real reason he has to return his honorary award is not because of anything controversial, but because he received a CBE in the Queen’s New Year Honors for his contributions to broadcasting and the consumer rights.

CBE or Commander of the British Empire is the highest award of the Order of the British Empire (excluding knighthood/dame), followed by OBE and MBE.

Early 2022, Martin received a CBE for services to broadcasting and consumer rights in the Queen’s New Year Honours.

On Monday October 10, he shared a picture of his OBE honor on Twitter and wrote: “They’re taking my OBE away from me! Yes I got a letter saying now I’ve been upgraded to a CBE I need to send the OBE back.”

Her post, which garnered more than 50,000 likes, drew congratulations from her followers who said they were “relieved” to know the real reason behind it.

One of them said, “Phew! Glad to have read after the first line!!! I was about to go ballistic!

Another said: “Fantastic – well deserved. Thank you for all your hard work in helping as many people as possible.

Later, Martin explained that he actually received the CBE “some time ago” from King Charles III, then known as Prince Charles.

He said: “Thank you for all the lovely tweets of congratulations. I actually got the CBE a while ago from King Charles (then Prince Charles) – it’s just me getting the letter asking for the return of the OBE :).
