Watauga & Ashe stores hit with fines

The Standards Division of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services collected fines from stores in Ashe and Watauga counties.

According to the Advance Auto at on Highway 421 release, Boone was fined $1,035. An initial inspection in July 2021 found an error rate of 16% based on eight overloads in a batch of 50 items. A follow-up inspection in August 2021 revealed an error rate of 8.33% based on 25 overloads in a batch of 300 items. The store passed inspection in October 2021. At Ashe Ingles at Ashemont Drive, West Jefferson paid $3,270 in fines. A first inspection in October 2021 revealed an error rate of 6% based on three overloads in a batch of 50 items. A follow-up inspection in November 2021 revealed an error rate of 8.33% based on 25 overloads in a batch of 300 items. The store passed inspection in January.
