Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority has used technology and artificial intelligence to monitor the markets of the Sultanate of Oman.

“The Consumer Protection Authority launches an initiative to use technology and artificial intelligence to monitor the markets of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman through a system of consensus among consumers, wholesalers and retailers in various sectors consumption, ”the Oman News Agency (ONA) said in a statement.

Hamoud bin Said Al Jabri, director general of consumer services and market surveillance at the Consumer Protection Authority, said the initiative will facilitate market control and save time and effort, adding that the number of complaints received by the Authority since its creation in 2011 until the third quarter of this year amounted to 96,042.

Al Jabri said the total amount recovered was OMR 16,237,562 million during the same period and that fines imposed by the authority amounted to OMR 3,517,957 million during the period. period from January 2012 to June 2021.

“The number of violations recorded by the authority since its inception until the third quarter of this year and referred to the prosecution for decision stands at 53,882 violations,” Al Jabri added.
